Riley Easterbrook is a white, queer and non-binary person currently living and working on the treaty lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation in the area covered by the Dish with One Spoon Covenant and Upper Canada Treaty No. 3. Riley is currently a medical student at McMaster University, returning to school after a few years working in midwifery research. Prior to their work in midwifery research, Riley obtained a Master’s of Science degree in Family Relations and Human Development from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Health from Brock University.

Riley’s Master’s research focused on 2SLGBTQIA+ parents’ experiences discussing sex and sexuality with their children. Most of Riley’s research experience is around qualitative research, particularly focus groups, interviews, and qualitative surveys. Riley also works with quantitative research with regards to descriptive statistics (for example, with program evaluation), and has extensive experience conducting literature reviews including both systematically searching and screening literature and synthesizing content from across studies.

Riley enjoys working with children and youth, and advocating for an anti-oppressive lens and focus in recreation, health, education, and social service spaces. A majority of Riley’s experience has been working with and for queer and trans individuals, clients, and patients. Riley was previously a project coordinator for the Positive Space project at the University of Guelph, where they developed an LGBTQ2SIA+ online and in-person training for all faculty and staff.
